Mikail Rashid, a 17-year-old boy from Toronto, tragically lost his life following a police-involved shooting in Aurora on Wednesday night.

According to preliminary reports, a break-in was reported around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday at a residence on Downey Circle in Aurora.
Responding to the call, York Regional Police officers arrived on the scene, where an exchange of gunfire ensued between Mikail and four officers.
Tragically, the 17-year-old was struck multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. One police officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In a statement, SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon confirmed that five investigators and three forensic experts have been assigned to look into the incident. Hudon also noted that four officers who fired their weapons have been named as subject officers, and five additional officers have been designated as witness officers.
The SIU is also investigating the origin of the call reporting the break-in. “We’re working to determine who made that call when it was made, and why,” Hudon shared, emphasizing the importance of understanding the events leading up to the tragedy.
