Tennessee Tech University Suicide: Student Death Reported

Tennessee Technological University is mourning the loss of a student who reportedly took their own life on Saturday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene, described as an isolated incident, which occurred on A Street, between North Peachtree Avenue and Dixie Avenue. This location is near Johnson, Pennebaker, and Foster Halls.

Incident Details

At this time, the identity of the student has not been released. Tennessee Tech, a public research university located in Cookeville, Tennessee, has a rich history dating back to its founding as the University of Dixie before becoming Tennessee Polytechnic Institute.

Statement from University Officials

University President Phil Oldham expressed profound sadness in a statement: “I am deeply saddened to share with you that, earlier this morning, a member of our student community passed away from self-inflicted harm. I have met with the student’s family and shared the university’s heartfelt sympathies for their unimaginable loss.”

He encouraged students to reach out to one another, saying, “In times like these, let us remind ourselves and each other: no one is alone, every person has immeasurable worth, and help is always available.” During today’s homecoming game and other events, a moment of silence will honor the student
