Tragic Accident Claims Life of Auburn South Student Jack Davey

Jack Davey, an 11-year-old student at Auburn South Primary School in Melbourne, tragically passed away on Tuesday. He was among five children sitting near the school’s fence when a car veered out of control and crashed through it. Despite emergency efforts, Jack was pronounced dead on his way to the hospital.

Cherished in His Community

Jack was known for his involvement in local sports, playing for both the Titans Junior Basketball Club and the Glen Iris Gladiators Football Club. As his family copes with this unimaginable loss, community members have rallied to support them through fundraising efforts and heartfelt messages.

Injuries and Community Support

The accident left four other children injured, who remain in stable condition under hospital care. Auburn South’s principal, Marcus Wicher, expressed deep sorrow for all affected families. Victorian Education Minister Ben Carroll visited the school to offer his support, and extra staff and counselors have been brought in to help students, families, and staff navigate this difficult time.

Driver and Ongoing Investigation

The driver, a 40-year-old woman, reportedly lost control of her car due to a possible medical incident. She was taken into custody but released as investigations continue. Premier Jacinta Allan and Inspector Craig McEvoy extended condolences, emphasizing the tragedy’s impact on the entire Hawthorn East community. Authorities are working diligently to understand the crash’s exact cause.
